Smappee Genius Flex#
Before commissioning, enable the ModbusTCP integration on the Smappee Genius Flex gateway and provide the connection details to your Octave contact.
How the connection works#
The Genius Flex gateway provides access to the connected Smappee EV chargers through the ModbusTCP app. The connection uses the gateway's wired IP address and the host port assigned by the app.
1. Install the ModbusTCP app#
- Open the Smappee app.
- Open the Genius Flex location under Settings.
- Go to Control.
- Open the Smappee Store.
- Select the ModbusTCP app.
- Tap Install integration.
- Review the permissions and tap Continue.
- Save the generated username and password immediately. They are shown only once. If they are lost, the integration must be reinstalled.
- Open the app's Activity screen and record the assigned host port.
For more information, see How do I install an app from the Smappee Store?.
Do not assume the port is 502. Copy the actual host port from the ModbusTCP app's Activity screen.
2. Provide the installation details#
Provide the following information to your Octave contact:
| Information | What to provide |
|---|---|
| Gateway IP address | Wired IP address of the Genius Flex gateway |
| Host port | Port shown in the ModbusTCP app's Activity screen |
| Integration credentials | Generated username and password; share securely, not in this guide |
| Charging stations | Total number of stations connected through the gateway |
| Sockets | Number of sockets on each station: one or two |
| Modbus addressing | Confirm the station/socket-to-unit-ID mapping with the installer, including the first unit ID and any gaps |
| Gateway serial number | Genius Flex serial number, needed for the control refresh request below |
Ensure the gateway's wired IP address and assigned host port are reachable from the installed energy-management equipment. Coordinate any required network access with the installer or network administrator.
3. Request a faster refresh interval if control is required#
For monitoring only, the default register refresh interval may be sufficient.
For energy-management control, ask Smappee support to reduce the register refresh interval from 15 seconds to 2 seconds. Include the Genius Flex serial number in the request.
4. Support commissioning#
During commissioning:
- Make sure the ModbusTCP app is installed and active.
- Confirm the gateway's wired IP address, assigned port, and charger addressing details with the commissioning contact.
- Connect a vehicle to a charger when requested.
- Help verify that the reported charging power and currents match the values visible in Smappee.
- If control is enabled, coordinate a temporary charging-current adjustment with the commissioning contact and confirm normal settings are restored after the test.
Troubleshooting#
| Issue | What to check |
|---|---|
| Cannot connect to the gateway | Confirm the ModbusTCP app is installed and active; verify the wired IP address and network access |
| Port 502 does not respond | Use the actual host port from the app's Activity screen |
| Some chargers are missing | Confirm the number of stations, sockets per station, and station/socket-to-unit-ID mapping with the installer |
| Charging-current changes are slow | Confirm Smappee support has changed the register refresh interval to 2 seconds |
| Monitoring works but control does not | Ask the commissioning contact to check integration permissions, charger addressing, and the Smappee control setup |
| Integration credentials are lost | Reinstall the integration to generate new credentials and securely provide the updated details to the commissioning contact |
